Many years ago we lost our brother-in-law Tom Jackson on the Osage River south of Topeka. He and my sister Dawn were portaging around some rapids when a canoe traveling behind them tried to make the rapids. They struggled and Tom went in to help them and all three perished. So it was with that always in the back of our minds that we canoe. Yet we almost had a tragedy. Thank you for writing, I know it must be hard, and for sharing that song, how powerful. Our precious grandson David was born at 3 pounds 8 oz in 2005 and he is 33 pounds now. David is a sperm baby as our son had problems even before they found the cancer - having those problems helped find the cancer early. As a mom at times I fear I'm going to lose my son but reading your blog every day helps me so much and so I just want to say thank you so much for sharing your story.
